WHAT I KNOW ABOUT DIGITAL MEDIA AND WHAT I WANT TO LEARN ABOUT DIGITAL MEDIA.

“If you put the radio on the internet, you certainly have digital media. And if you put a newspaper in a tablet, then you have digital media, as well.” (Smith). From the apps on your smartphone to the ads that you see on Instagram, digital media is one of the most prominent products in today’s society. Being in a world that is in a constant growing state of progression in technology and social media, digital media populates many different industries. Being someone who is severely right-brained and creative, I view digital media as the creative digital content on your phone or computer that typically includes appealing graphics, videos, music, text, etc. I know that digital media can range anywhere from podcasts, mobile applications, television, social media, and so much more. When I think of digital media, the images in my mind tend to be Instagram ads and promotional videos that I see on social media platforms. Being a videographer, I have grown a deep appreciation for the video aspect of digital media. I think that one of the most essential skills in digital media and marketing is video and video editing because it is engaging and personal. According to MarTech, videos have the potential to hold customer’s attention on retail sites for two minutes longer than average (Digital Marketing Institute).
I believe that the digital media industry is booming and has become a crucial part in any brand or industry. There are still so many things to learn about this subject and I am excited to take a course that will educate me in all of the different aspects of digital media. I would like to learn more about some of the most commonly used softwares and tools for digital media as well as tips and tricks for graphic design and website development. I consider myself a tech-savvy person, but sometimes I find myself getting stuck in how to build a website that looks cohesive and appealing to a consumer. Additionally, I would also like to learn more about social media management and the technicalities that embody it. I have always been very intrigued by this particular job position and would love to learn more about what goes into managing a brand’s social media and the tactics that people use.
